The Maine Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy is pleased to announce United Technologies Center (UTC) in Bangor as the 2017 Maine LifeSmarts Champion. Following a highly competitive championship match against Waynflete School, UTC prevailed as champion. The team will represent Maine in the National LifeSmarts competition in Pittsburgh, PA in April.
Led by Business Management and Entrepreneurship Instructor Amanda Peterson, this is UTC’s second championship in two years. The five-member team hails from four different high schools, Bangor High School, Brewer High School, Hampden High School, and Hermon High School. Team members include Shayna Coombs who serves as team captain, Julie Gagne, Noah Larson, Eric Byers, and Hunter Woodruff.
“LifeSmarts is a fun way for teens to develop important consumer and marketplace skills and financial knowledge,” said Debbie Bechard, LifeSmarts coordinator and Maine Jump$tart board member. “The competition is fun and fast-paced, with all the trappings of a game show. But the knowledge the students are gaining will be critical to life success.”
