LifeSmarts is a national competition-based educational program that develops the consumer and marketplace skills of teens. Currently, LifeSmarts is offered in 42 states, including Maine. Students are quizzed in five key content areas:
- Personal Finance
- Consumer Rights and Responsibilities
- Health and Safety
- The Environment
- Technology
During the fall and early winter, Maine high school students, led by an adult coach, study and prepare utilizing the LifeSmarts online resources. In February, teams participate in an online competition. The top four scoring teams are invited to participate in a state competition at Unum in Portland, Maine. The winning team receives an all-expense paid trip to the national finals.
