2025 Educator of the Year

Maine Jump$tart Coalition Honors Andrew Kenny as 2025 Financial Educator of the Year

November 3, 2025 — The Maine Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy is proud to announce that Andrew Kenny, a mathematics teacher at Morse High School in Bath, has been named the 2025 Maine Jump$tart Financial Educator of the Year.

Seventeen years ago, Andrew created a stand-alone financial literacy course at Morse High School, driven by the belief that every student should graduate with the knowledge and confidence to manage their personal finances. Since then, he has poured his time, energy, and passion into developing and teaching this course – making a lasting impact on generations of students.

“Andrew’s dedication to financial education exemplifies the very best of what this award represents,” said Mary Dyer, President of the Maine Jump$tart Coalition. “His commitment to helping students develop essential money management skills has empowered countless young people to make informed financial decisions that will benefit them throughout their lives.”

His approach to teaching financial literacy is deeply personal and rooted in real-world experience. Drawing from his own financial journey as a young adult, parent, and homeowner, he brings authenticity and relevance to every lesson. His classroom has become a space where students can talk openly about money, goals, and dreams – often for the first time.

“For me, teaching financial literacy has become more than a professional duty; it’s my greatest passion,” said Kenny. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see how students engage with these topics and how the lessons stay with them long after graduation.”

For fifteen consecutive years, Kenny’s financial literacy course was the highest-enrolled elective at Morse High School, reaching as many as 80% of graduating seniors. He continues to update and enrich the course using high-quality, free resources such as Next Gen Personal Finance, EverFi, Banzai, and PracticalMoneySkills.com, ensuring students have access to the most relevant and practical content available.

As the 2025 Financial Educator of the Year, Kenny will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to youth financial literacy and his leadership in advancing financial education in Maine schools.
